Community Environmental Officer – Mpumalanga Ehlanzeni District

Requirements:
- Historically disadvantaged background
- Candidate must reside in Ehlanzeni District
- Candidate must have valid matric and tertiary education
- Diploma in Environmental Studies
- Qualifications must be from accredited institutions
- Candidate must have drivers license and own vehicle
- Candidate must have a smart phone in good working condition
- Good understanding and experience of community engagement, community participation, building positive partnerships and developing a community of recyclers.
- A good understanding of the community and the facilities available e.g., community halls, clinics, schools, sporting facilities, churches, parks
- Experience of managing health and safety requirements for group activities and activations
- Candidate must have health & safety qualification
- Candidate must be Computer literate
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records of activities.
Responsiblities :
Planning & organising
- Review and understand the deliverables of the companies engagement plan and draw up a calendar of activities aligned to the plan.
- Present the calendar of activities to the Community Relations and Education Officer for sign off.
- Upon sign off of activities order materials and marketing collateral for implementation of activities.
- Complete internal documentation for the release of material and marketing collateral and coordinate the delivery of such materials to the intended recipients.
Community Engagement:
- Engage the respective civil organisations in the community on the intended activities highlighting the benefits of the activities to all the relevant stakeholders.
- Influence the respective stakeholders to adopt and support initiatives.
- Creatively breakdown barriers to ensure timely delivery of key milestones in implementing planned activities.
- Coordinate project execution planning with various community members and organisations and create a common understanding of what is to be achieved.
- Ensure consistency in the standards of delivery of activities aimed at creating a clean community and support recycling efforts that are new or existing.
- Communicate progress updates, hurdles requiring the attention of the Community Relations and Education Officer .
- Take a hands-on approach in offering innovative solutions and devising, coordinating, and driving activities that aim to increase the collection of recyclables and keeping the environment clean.
Community Activations:
- Implement activations as planned for the various stakeholder groups including schools, church, SSA Offices to engage grand recipients on separation at source and encourage individual action to recycle.
- Conduct Door-to-door separation at source engagements with the support of community leaders and ward councillors.
- Conduct Mall activations to educate the public on the value of recycling and how they can start their own recycling initiatives.
- Using your knowledge of the community identify where paper and paper packaging waste can be found and plan the collection of these materials.
- Lead community clean-up campaigns to illuminate illegal dumping.
- Encourage active citizenry in reporting environmental crimes such as illegal dumping.
- Participate in community sporting activities and promote a clean environment.
- Schedule waste picker training for community members.
Data Capturing:
- Using the Waste Volume Reporting template record values of paper and paper packaging collected on a weekly basis and submit to the Community Relations & Education Officer for review.
- Record community views on the activities that are being rolled out with the objective of the community taking ownership of the cleanliness of their environment.
- Create and update the database of Waste Reclaimers in the community and map the waste logistics to the Buy- Back centres
